Chad Bowersock - Graduated 1995

Chad was born and raised in East Liverpool, the son of Bill and Debbie Bowersock along with his two brothers (Casey and Cole) and his sister (Cylee).

Chad began his wrestling career in first grade as a Beaver mite.  At BLMS, Chad went undefeated with a 36-0 record.

While at BLHS, Chad’s athletic career as a wrestler included being a two-time Sectional Champion, two-time District Champion and three-time State Qualifier placing third in 1995 at the Ohio Div. II State Tournament at 135 pound weight class.  Chad also achieved the titles of EOWL Champion along with OVAC Champion his senior year.  He was selected All Area first team four times.

In 1994, Chad was chosen along with 17 other wrestlers to represent the State of Ohio on a 21 day cultural exchange wrestling tour known as the Ohio All-Star Wrestling Team.  Wrestlers were selected on the basis of scholastic, athletic and civic accomplishments.  It was only the second sanctioned Junior wrestling team in 20 years to represent Ohio on an overseas exchange tour.  They traveled to Australia and New Zealand.

Chad finished his wrestling career with 119 wins after missing 15 matches his senior year with a knee injury.  He was instrumental in setting a high standard of team success as a wrestler and a coach at BL where he was a member of the coaching staff for five years.  Chad was a part of over twenty team titles and championships in his career.

Along with wrestling, Chad had great success in the sport of bull riding.  In 1995, he was awarded Ohio High School Rodeo Bull Riding Champion and competed in Gillette WY at the finals finishing 22nd in the nation.

Chad graduated from BLHS in 1995 and resides in West Point OH with his wife Lori where they train and race thorobred horses.  They have two sons (Luke and Brodi) and a daughter (Tori).

Daniel Kinsey - Graduated 2005

Daniel Kinsey was a 2005 graduate of Beaver Local High School, where he excelled both on the field and in the classroom. He grew up on his family’s farm in Wellsville with his parents, Marv and Janet Kinsey, and siblings, Collin, Katie and David. Coming from an athletic oriented family, Daniel has competed in all types of sports, such as, gymnastics, karate, football, basketball, soccer, track and field, and wrestling. No matter what the season was, you were sure to see him giving it his all to try and come home with a win.  Along with his athletic accolades, Kinsey was also a standout in the classroom. He was Valedictorian of his 2005 graduating class, 3 year member of the national honor society, and was elected to represent Beaver Local at “Boys State.” Dan’s main athletic focuses in high school were on track and field and football.

Track and Field: 5x High School All-American (2x Indoor Pentathlon and 3x Outdoor Decathlon), 3x National Champion, 2005 Nike Indoor National Champion Pentathlon, 2003 & 2004 USA JO Track &  Field Champion Decathlete. Member of  2003 Team USA World Youth Championships competing in the Octathlon. He set Ohio High School State Records in the Indoor Pentathlon & Outdoor Decathlon.  7x placer at Ohio State HS Track & Field Championships in Discus, Long Jump and 110 Meter Hurdles. Won 9 Individual District & Regional Titles in Discus, Long Jump, 110 Meter Hurdles and 300 Meter Hurdles. Set Beaver Local Records in Discus, Long Jump, 110 Meter Hurdles, 300 Meter Hurdles and was a member of the record setting Shuttle Hurdle Relay team. Voted as the “BIG 33” Columbiana County Athlete of the Year in 2005. 3x Columbiana County Meet MVP with 12 Meet Titles. Won 14 Conference Championships between the Steel Valley Athletic Conference and Ohio Valley Athletic Conference.   4 Year Letterman.

Football: 2x All-State selection, 1st Team in 2004, 2003 Honorable Mention, 2004 Ohio Eastern District Defensive Player of the Year, Honorable Mention as a Kick Return Specialist for the 2005 Army All-American Bowl, Set School Records for most Kick Return Yardage in season and career. 3x All-County selection.  Lead the Beavers in All-Purpose Yardage and Interceptions in his senior season. 2004 Voted as the area’s #1 Football Player at the East Liverpool Review and Associated Press “Elite 11.” Played Free Safety and Running Back in the 2005 PENN/OHIO ALL-STAR CLASSIC. 2005 Graduating Class set the School Record for most wins in a four year period making the State Playoffs every year; 3 Year Letterman.  Dan accepted a Scholarship to play football in the Big Ten Conference at Indiana University as a Defensive Back and Kick Return Specialist.

In 2006, Kinsey transferred to the University of Akron for Track and Field.  He was a member of the US Decathlon Team in the 2011 Thorpe Cup Championships; 3x US Outdoor Track & Field Championship Qualifier; 5th at 2011 US Indoor Championships; 2x NCAA All-American in the Decathlon, 2009-2010; Ranked in top 10 US Decathletes, 2009-2010; 6x Mid American Conference Champion in Indoor Heptathlon & Outdoor Decathlon 2008-2010; Set School Records in Indoor Heptathlon & Outdoor Decathlon; Set All-Time MAC Record Indoor Heptathlon, Meet Record in Heptathlon & Decathlon, 2x Outdoor Track & Field Athlete of Year, 3x MVP Championships; 3x Varsity Letterman.

Dan graduated from Akron with a Business Degree and plans to pursue a career in real estate. He still lives and trains in Akron and will continue his pursuit to make an Olympic Team. Kinsey is an Engineer Officer in the Ohio National Guard recently promoted to 1st Lieutenant and Executive Officer of his Unit, the 1192nd Engineer Company.

Jacob Robinson - Graduated 2004

Jacob is the son of Buddy and Debbie Robinson of West Point, Ohio with a brother Jason and sister Sarah.  He graduated from Beaver Local High School in 2004 and was both a gifted athlete and scholar as class valedictorian.

A 4 year varsity letter winner in Football, Jake’s exceptional athletic abilities helped him gain much recognition throughout his career.  His career rushing yards was 2,816 of which 1,156 came his senior year with 16 touchdowns.  Jake was a successful passing quarterback as well as a receiver.  On defense, he tallied 40 tackles, 1 sack, 4 interceptions and one returned for a touchdown.  He was part of undefeated teams with multiple state play-off runs.

Jake received honors as All Area Player of the Year, 2nd Team All State, 1st Team Eastern District, 1st Team OVAC and 1st Team County.  He also tied or set many school records.

A 4 year varsity letter winner in Basketball, Jake’s athleticism continued to shine through.  He became the school’s all-time leading scorer with 1,085 career points and was the first male basketball player to surpass the 1,000 point mark.

Jake earned many accolades for basketball during his four years which include 1st Team Morning Journal, 1st Team Evening Review, 1st Team Columbiana County, 1st Team Eastern District, 1st Team District 5 Coaches Association, 1st Team OVAC, OVAC All-Star Team, Special Mention District II All Ohio.  His senior year, Jake averaged 22 points per game; 6 rebounds per game, 5 assists per game and 2.5 steals per game.

After high school, Jacob attended Youngstown State University on an academic scholarship and graduated in 2008 with a degree in accounting and finance.  He attended Fisher College of Business at The Ohio State University and graduated in 2011 with a Masters in Accounting.  Currently, Jacob resides in Pittsburgh PA and is employed by Ernst & Young and is pursing his CPA license.

Ila Horger – Special Category

Ila Harsha was born in East Liverpool Ohio in 1921, the daughter of Elzie and Stella, and sister of Jim and Tom.  She graduated from East Liverpool High School in 1938 and married Dale Horger seven years later.  Together they have four children, Dennis, David, Dean and Nancy.

Following the death of her husband in 1964, the traditional stay at home mom found it financially necessary to join the work force.  She began subbing in the Beaver Local Schools kitchens, thus beginning a career that spanned 24 years, culminating in being named supervisor of the school cafeterias.  Ila was well liked and greatly respected by those who worked with her.  Working full time, raising a family and caring for her own parents and brother, Tom, did not deter her from one of her greatest gifts, volunteering in the community.  She spent many active years in the Beaver Local Athletics Booster Club, not only while her children were participating in sports but long after.  She sold memberships, 500 club tickets, cups, mugs, hats, shirts, jackets and tickets at home sporting events and eventually served as president of the Boosters.

Ila still follows sports, college and professional, and is a huge Duke basketball fan.  She also enjoys spending time with her friends and family which now includes five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
