Required Immunization for 7th Grade

Ohio Revised Code requires our students to provide written proof of immunizations. Prior to entering the 7th grade, students must have a Tdap booster (Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Pertussis). You can obtain this booster from your own physician or at no cost through the Columbiana County Health Department (330-424-0272). We encourage our 6th grade students to have this taken care of immediately. After recieving the Tdap booster please forward a copy of your updated shot record to the school nurse.

Parents who for religious or philosophical reasons do not wish their child to have this vaccine can submit in writing a request for exemption signed by the parent or legal guardian.  If you have any questions regarding this issue, please call Nurse Ash at the Middle School.

Calamity Day Make-Up Schedule

Beaver Local School District has had 9 Calamity Days as of March 18, 2014. By law, we are allowed to miss 5 days without having to make them up. However, the recent Calamity Day Amended Substitute Bill 416 provides districts with 4 additional days. To be in compliance with state regulations classes will now be in session on the following dates Monday, April 21st, Friday, May 30th, Monday, June 2nd and Tuesday, June 3rd.   The teachers last day will be Wednesday, June 4th.  The high school graduation date will remain on Friday, May 23rd.  Also, the Waiver Day scheduled for Wednesday, March 26th has been canceled.  March 26th will be a regular school day; It cannot be counted as a Calamity Day make-up day.

Destination Imagination Teams Bring Home First Place

This past Saturday at Columbiana High School,  Beaver Local was represented by five teams at the Region 13 Destination Imagination Competition. Destination Imagination (DI) is the  largest educational, critical thinking, problem-solving program in the world. Its purpose is to inspire and equip students to become the next generation of innovators and leaders. Annually, it offers seven new standards-based Challenges in STEM, Improv, Visual Arts, Service Learning, and Early Learning. Each Challenge is open-ended and enables student teams to learn and experience the creative process from imagination to innovation.  All five of our teams won first place and will now advance to state competition in Columbus on April 26th.  Pictured are the two teams from our Middle School.

OAA Testing

Beaver Local Middle School will begin OAA testing on April 30th. On this day all students will be taking the reading test. All students will continue testing on May 1st with the mathematics test.  We will conclude testing on May 2nd with the 5th and 8th graders taking their science test.  Please do not schedule any doctor's appointments or vacation days during these three testing dates.  It is critical that we provide students with an optimal testing environment and we believe this best achieved on our planned testing dates as opposed to make up days.  We will provide breakfast for all students on their testing dates.  It is important for students to get a good nights sleep the night before a test and to come with a positive attitude.  Parents can work with your children on previous test items by visiting:   http://education.ohio.gov/Topics/Testing/Testing-Materials.
