Hello, my name is Michael Klein. I have been a middle school science teacher here at Beaver Local for 17 years. I have a degree in environmental zoology, with a minor in chemistry from Ohio University, and received my teaching certification from Cleveland State University. I have graduate level coursework in marine biology, physics, geology, and physiology, as well as education. I am presently the Middle School Science Department Chairman.
The science department has adopted a philosophy congruent with the new Ohio standards in science education. This philosophy emphasizes discovery of knowledge through research and experimentation, then tying concepts together using project based learning. We also integrate other classes so the students can see how the learning taking place throughout the day can be applied in a practical way the reflects the real world. It is a challenging yet exciting time to be in education as we adjust our teaching to develop solid 21st century learners.
