Hello! I am the one of the Title One Teachers here at Beaver Local. Let me tell you a little about myself. I am a graduate of Wellsville High School. When I was a student at WHS, I would have never believed that I would someday find myself teaching at Beaver Local. These two schools have always been such rivals! The summer after I graduated, my family moved into the Beaver Local School District. I have lived in the district ever since.
I attended Malone (College) University in Canton, Ohio, where I graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education (1-8). After earning my degree, I spent a year as a substitute teacher exclusively at Wellsville. The next year, I broadened my horizons a little and was a substitute in Wellsville, Beaver Local, and East Liverpool. By the spring of that school year, I was hired as a long term substitute at Beaver Local Middle School in the Chapter One (nka Title One) Reading program. I started the following year (1986) as a substitute, and finally, was hired in December as a three hour a day Chapter One Reading teacher splitting the time between Rogers and Calcutta. I spent the next year as a Title One Math teacher at the Middle School. The following year, again, I taught Chapter One Reading between Calcutta and Rogers. I started fulltime at Rogers in 1990 and was the Title One Reading teacher there until the building closed in 2015.
During the 1991-92 school year, I completed training as a Reading Recovery Teacher through The Ohio State University. I have also earned my Masters in the Art of Teaching through Marygrove College.
As I mentioned earlier, I live in the Beaver Local School District. I have two children who attended and graduated from Beaver Local Schools. My daughter, Rachel, graduated from Malone University and works in graphic design. My son, Matthew, attended Robert Morris University majoring in Economics. My husband, Scott, is an East Liverpool and Kent State graduate. He also works here at Beaver Local as a paraprofessional with the Middle School Multiple Handicap class.
