    Description: image013       About the school….

History:

The first school in the village of Rogers, Ohio was a one-room schoolhouse built on the property of William Schiltz on Highland Avenue.  Later, classes moved to a building near the Rogers Feed Mill, and again to Mt. Hope Academy in 1883.  In 1894, the academy burned, but was rebuilt the same year.  A.Y. Taylor was teacher and owner.  A.A. Galbreath and Charles Galbreath bought the academy in 1894 and changed the name to Mt. Hope College.  In 1905, the college was changed to a summer school, and later to a public school.  The public school, Rogers School, served students in grades 1-8.  The school was again destroyed by fire in January 1951.  The new school was completed in March 1951.  In 1958, an addition was added to serves grades 1-6.

Currently:

Rogers Elementary serves students from kindergarten to grade four.  A variety of programs are offered to meet the academic needs of students: general education instruction, Model IV special education instruction, Title I Reading, a gifted and talented program, and a multiple handicapped unit.

Current student enrollment is 185 (including the MH district unit).  Ten classroom teachers are on staff, along with a Learning Center Instructor and Title I teacher each day.  Additional staff provides instruction in art, music, physical education, speech and language, and library skills.  A guidance counselor, nurse, and school psychologist also provide services.

Our Programs:

Curricular changes are guided by the Content Standards of the State of Ohio and driven by the goal to improve teaching and learning in all areas of instruction.  To support instruction textbooks have been adopted in Language Arts, Math, Social Studies, and Science.

A balanced literacy approach to language arts instruction begins with Building Blocks in kindergarten and progresses throughout the grade levels to immerse students in quality instruction in reading, writing, and grammar.  The focus is on the five areas of reading instruction (phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary development, and comprehension).

Technology is integrated into all areas of the curriculum.  Students in each classroom, K-4, have access to five computers and become motivated to learn while using technology.  Internet access, e-mail capabilities, and educational software provide a multitude of opportunities to learn as students explore, discover, and communicate as they use computers as a tool for learning.   Students also have access to a computer lab for additional experiences with technology, including a Smart Board and ClassWorks upgrade.

Rogers Elementary is embracing a Beaver Local Schools district-wide endeavor.  Building Assets Together (B.A.T.) strives, through a team approach, to help students develop strong assets to achieve success at school and in all aspects of their lives, focusing on: Responsibility, Respect, Caring, Trustworthiness, Fairness, and Carring.
